Workshops on Demand

by Franz Rodenkirchen and Françoise von Roy

Designing a workshop to fit a company or institution’s individual needs or making use of our existing workshop formats we offer development and training opportunities for institutions, festivals and companies.

A workshop that combines Script Circle and aspects of Six Days of Practice was specifically designed for Screen Scotland and held twice in 2024, with three days specifically created for producers interested in gaining experience in development and a Script Circle for writers and directors, which allowed the producers to immediately put new insights into practice.

Script Circle has been adapted for festivals and co-production markets for filmmakers with projects in development, for example during Cinemart at IFF Rotterdam and Pristina IFF. Workshops have also been specifically customised for Focal in Switzerland, Nederlands Filmfonds, IFF Warsaw and several production companies, eg. Komplizen Film, Berlin and Film Kolektiv in Prague.

The duration, schedule and cost of customised workshops is dependent on the needs of the respective company or organization. Workshops can take place either at the Solace23 office in Berlin, or a location determined by the client, in either case the client covers travel and accommodation.

Since 2016, for example, we have held bi-yearly Script Circles for Finnish production company Aamu. A Script Circle on demand allows the possibility to combine the development of several on-going projects in a condensed amount of time. Instead of arranging and paying for individual consultancies for each project, having your own Script Circle means that you will have an economically attractive, concentrated effort with input from two internationally experienced script consultants.

At the same time Script Circles on demand offer the additional advantage of bringing all the creative people actively involved in developing a project into the same room. Instead of working alongside each other, all the writers, directors, producers, and developers get to know each other and their projects in-depth and have a chance to feedback each other. Furthermore, this should also be seen as a training opportunity for everyone involved in development, to further script reading and analysis skills and gain new insights into giving feedback to writers/filmmakers.
